Hi Magento lovers!

It’s our favorite day of the week again: Magento Weekly Roundup day! (Some people also call it Friday).

There’s a lot of material for you to catch up on. Let’s see what the buzz has been this past week in the Magento Community.

Beginning with Magento CE 2.1 Release Candidate 1 (RC1), all of us have the chance to preview the tweaks and features of Magento 2.1 GA. The open source nature of Magento is truly reflected here, as you can contribute to improvement in the code by identifying any issues. Furthermore, you can test your Magento 2.0 extensions for compatibility with 2.1. Also, get the details on new features of the Community Edition, such as PayPal in-context checkout, Braintree enhancements, and improved management interfaces.

Moving on to Max Pronko’s excellent article, New Database Connection in Magento 2, we can attain deep knowledge of the intricacies of setting up a new database connection for custom resource model in Magento 2. Claudia Jhonson walks us through the thought process and the technical process behind an upgrade from Magento 1.x  to Magento 2.0 in The Rookie’s Guide to Upgrading From Magento 1.x Versions to Magento 2. After reading this, you’ll have no problem in extending a core Prototype class.
