Magento News for the weeks 35 and 36

magento news weeks 35 and 36 - 2014

After delivering all the overdue bi-weekly news round-ups, we have finally arrived at the last passed two weeks. Here’s what went on.

Magento

  • Atwix explained how to programmatically add a sales report to the Magento dashboard.
  • Magicento, the PHPStorm plugin for Magento developers, has been updated to version 2.8.0. It brings new code generation options and adds various new autocompletions.
  • Interactiv4 welcomes Ivan Chepurnyi as its new CTO. In the interview Ivan notes that Ecomdev and its products will not suffer from this move. With one of his goals at I4 being “[creating] a new way of dealing with Magento database, that will make some buzz in the community“, we believe him on his word.
  • DemacMedia published a comprehensive list of all Magento transactional emails and their designs. Each entry also notes which action(s) triggers the displayed email.
  • n98-magerun has been updated to version 1.91.0. Additions include: improved Windows support, the ability to delete customers and admin users from the CLI and a new command-namespace called [cci]code[/cci] which marks the start of code generation commands in n98-magerun.
  • The magerun blog its series about 3rd party n98-magerun modules covered the LimeSoda_EnvironmentConfiguration module written by Matthias Zeis.
  • Part 3 of the Fireside video-chat covered the Magento Testing Framework (MTF) and went into writing unit tests with fixtures using EcomDev_PHPUnit.
  • In an under 20 seconds video, Daniel Sloof has demonstrated his fully automated Magento test suite running on HHVM with the Magento TAF. Looks pretty cool, huh.
  • In an article showcasing their platform, New Relic shows how to debug Magento performance.

Magento 2

  • In the last two weeks of August 0.1.0-alpha91 and 0.1.0-alpha92 were pushed to the Magento 2 repository. Those updates remove the old price templates and bring new price rendering for the Weee and Tax modules. There is also a new indexer for the fulltext search and the RSS module is now optional. For the full story, check out the changelog.
  • On the 11th of September, upcoming Thursday, Magento has scheduled a webinar covering “Performance and Scalability Improvements” and “Composer Updates”. We will keep you posted.
  • In the previous round-up you were made aware that “simple configurable products” are not to be added until the Magento 2 release candidate scheduled for 2015. In a new comment, Magento confirms yet again that this feature is planned but not until the “feature’s release”. A bummer for most.
  • Alan Kent has published two articles (part 1 & part 2) about Magento 2 in combination with Docker and Panamax and the significance of that mix. An earlier demo of Magento 2 on Docker and Panamax can be found here.
