Magento News for the weeks 29 and 30

After a few weeks of absence, we will start with catching up with Matthias his bi-weekly Magento News round-ups. Here comes the news of the weeks 29 and 30.

Magento

Magento 2

  • Alan Kent went into detail about Magento 2 version numbering and Composer integration. Noteworthy is that in the future each and every module, theme and langugae pack will stand as its own Composer module. Merchants will not be bothered with this change as Composer “will be hidden behind nice user interfaces”.
  • In the weeks 29 and 30, Magento 2.0.0.0-dev86 and 2.0.0.0-dev87 were released.

Community

  • Tim and Marius announced MageKarma. When this news post was relevant, it was still a secret, but now we know it is a – spoiler aheadcommunity driven website to collect reviews of Magento extensions.
  • In London, England the MagentoLive UK conference was held. A lot of positive feedback has been heard.
  • As often with Magento conferences there is an accompanying hackathon. Vinai Kopp wrote about his experience and the challenge he undertook.
  • 7PHP has interviewed Philip Jackson regarding the Magento Certification. A lot of useful advise, there.
  • An opinion piece by Osvaldo Spadano goes into the details of “Why Magento Go failed“. Reasons stated are the complexity of Magento and the lack of freedom Go offered compared to standard Magento.
That’s about it for the weeks 29 and 30. Don’t forget that we are catching up and at the time of writing this “news” is more than a month old; from around the 8th of July to the 22nd. Hopefully we see you tomorrow, when we will dive into the weeks 31 and 32. Faded header image background by Whiteghost.ink / CC BY-SA 3.0
